Hi Guys and gals. I have a boot problem with my car and I am wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same problem.
When the boot is opened, 99% of the time no problem, but the boot on rare occasions decides to close its self while someone is packing or unpacking the boot.

The car has been with Volvo for three full days now and despite numerous tests, Volvo can find nothing wrong. They say that they have carried out all of the tests required by Volvo and submitted reports to their head office or whoever and they have given them instructions, such as checking the wiring sensors etc, etc.

They say that they are now waiting to hear from Volvo HQ next week now.

Any advice etc would be gratefully helpful. SO HELLLLLPPPpp.

I've had issues with our xc90 when the foot sensor incorrectly thinks I'm trying to shut the boot when in fact I'm just stood in between the bike rack we have and the boot. It happens a few times when I'm not trying to ooen/shut..
Could this be what's happening with yours perhaps? Does the sensor trigger it when it's unwanted?

Default S90 Boot Problems

Thank you for your reply. You could be right here, but Volvo Newcastle say that everything has been checked and they cannot find anything wrong with the car.

The problem is an intermittent one, the boot lid has came down 7 times 3 times on my wife's nut and twice each for the two kids.

Answer crash helmets LOL.

I had the same problem with my V90. Or thought I had until I discovered that having the key in my trouser pocket, then bending whilst seated to put on walking boots, meant that I pressed the boot closure button on the key! I've also experienced Lozzingers' phantom under-bumper switch effect.

I hope that helps.

It should be easy to track this down?

If it's the sensor under the bumper it has to have two conditions to operate. The key must be within a metre and something close enough to be spotted under the bumper. On mine, it will operate if I walk too close to the bumper with the key in my pocket.

If it's the switch in the base of the tailgate it should be pulled out and the wiring checked back to the headlining for any shorts or breaks.

Sorry to hear these incidents. In another thread I've mentioned our boot has opened into our bike rack a few times so if Volvo read these, please add an option in the software to deactivate if we want (ideally without resorting to taking out the fuse!!)

Isn't there something where you can set the tailgate to auto-stop opening at a user pre-set level so it doesn't hit the bike rack?

I did ask on here but the collective wisdom didn't know! I could ask our dealer of course! I do think as soon as the software detects something plugged in to the towbar it should deactivate the auto boot system. It deactivates BLIS so it is I am sure easy to program 😊
