Default XC90 22" Tyres question

Looking at my OEM Pirelli Scorpion Verde PCNS 275/35R22s they are approaching the need for renewal.

I have seen the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric SUV with better noise (well 1dB), better wet performance. More reasonably priced too.

Does anyone have experience of the Goodyears on 22" rims?

Or any other recommendations?

I had 17" eagle f1 on my previous car. They were OK, but I found the michilin pilot sport 3 I had before were much better grip, but didn't last as long as the eagle f1.

I think the balance is between good grip, but tyres last shorter, over average grip with average wear.

I currently have pirelli p zero on my xc60 on 21" alloys and they are pretty good.

How many miles did the scorpions last? I’ve done approx 16k in my first year and they have all worn 2-3mm which I think is pretty good. Very impressed with the tyres as a whole but noisy on the 22’s

I had pzero’s on my FPace and my current XE-S which I wouldn’t recommend for anything other than a hot summer day where they are fantastic.

These large wheels with very low profile tyres cost an arm and a leg to run compared with higher profile tyres. Not only do replacements cost up to 50% more than the 19" option but they need replacing at about half the milage, meaning up to a four-fold increase in cost per mile, although more commonly threefold or so.
Luckily Volvo aren't particularly hard on tyres, unlike my previous Q7 which ate through sets of premium tyres at 12,000 mile intervals.

I think this is worth mentioning to anyone who may contemplate paying perhaps over £1000 extra on some variants for the privilege of the extra running cost on top. It isn't an issue for everyone, but 'careful' people will surely wish to know, ideally before purchasing a car.

Absolutely agree Quacker.

My old MkI XC90 had 17" wheels for that very reason.

I have 19" alloys with winter tyres for this one but this ex-staff Volvo car came with the 22". The ride is OK, the noise is OK, the wear as asked by a previous member is 5mm left after 18K miles. So not too bad but at £200-£300 per corner depending on tyre the replacements are eye watering expensive.
