It's funny you should mention the voice control updates. There was an update in the spring if I remember, which I applied, it seemed to go through okay and I thought nothing more about it.

I then discovered last weekend that voice instructions off the navigation had stopped working. Muted, unmuted, full, medium, low, nothing worked. (Normally I just pay attention to the HUD and don't use the voice instructions.)

Further investigation revealed that voice control had also stopped working. (You can tell how much I use that too!) ... so I went to see if there was a new voice control update, downloaded and installed it ... and I now have voice control and voice instructions back again.

So the question for me now is whether the all-in-one map update will work again. No doubt there will now be an unusually long wait for the next one!

I think it was Douglas Adams who said "the difference between something that probably won't break and something that can't break is that when the thing that can't break does break, it can't be fixed" ... sometimes I can't help feeling that Sensus is a bit of a black magic box even for Volvo.

Oh, DriverDen -- no, I've never seen OTA prompts for the voice control or for GraceNote either. I think I did once see a message for one of the apps but that was a long time ago.

I have just looked at the Volvo Support site, for Voice Control software download.

It states:
Release Date 24/10/19
VDVersion 32141802AA

https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support.../voice-control

Cannot find the October 2020 one mentioned in #19?

... and that 32141802AA version is the one I've just (re?)installed. I didn't keep the one I installed a few months back, and I don't remember it saying there was any problem with it.

The date stamp on the downloaded file isn't of any use, since that's when the downloader finished writing it, and a quick look at the text header in the file doesn't give anything obviously looking like a date.

Well spotted Tem, I just noticed the 24/10 and missed the 19 part, so it was available last October but as I always do map updates OTA I've not looked on the software uploads for ages.

As my V90 presumably had 2017 voice control prior to this update I've still no idea what has changed?

Well, what I found out (it could be placebo effect) after installing the full Europe map 1323 from USB, that the Sensus is loading everything much quicker than before. I hope anyone can confirm it or disagree with me!?

Can't yet attest to it being quicker (I'll see how it feels over the next few days), but I am relieved to discover that after reinstalling the voice control update, the car just took the 1323 whole-of-Europe USB update and installed it without any complaints. Which is in itself slightly bizarre as it had already installed the individual countries either OTA or via USB. Ah well, at least it confirms my recent hypothesis that the evidently-failed voice control update a few months back also confused the full map updates. Problem fixed and we know what it was

1323 seems to have stuck now but I have another map update downloading. Looks like 3 in 2 months? catch up or something!

Yes, 1326 downloaded and installed OTA in my car today without any problems, that's three map updates in just over a month!

I've not been bothering downloading the map updates whilst I am not driving anywhere. I assume that won't cause a problem when I do not upgrade? You don't have to upgrade them all sequentially or anything like that? Thanks.
