Default Front fog light installation

Hello

I just ordered all the parts required to install the front fog light into my 2011 S40 (all are used original parts). I do not expect any difficulties with the mechanical part of the process, however I know that the fog light will have to be enabled in the software as well. I have Volvo vida dice. Does anyone know how to enable/install the fog light software?

Just follow the installation instructions in Vida.

If software is required, it will tell you in the instructions along with the software part number.

I only found a very basic guide in VIDA on how to do this (attached), am I doing it wrong?

nothing wrong, you just need to purchase software pack from volvo to enable fogs. You need subscription to volvo servers :/ it is possible to do it with "non original" Dice unit but Vida itself must be legit to order any packages (and also you will pay for them regardless".
sorry.. its a VOLVO... :/

It's all good, in this case I will just take it to a Volvo dealer once I am done with the parts installations. I was thinking that maybe the bone-stock Vida has this software in it already, but no matter. Should I let them update the general software of the car while I am there?

By the way, since it is not a simple enable-disable current option, does this mean that the fog lights will have some extra functionality, like light up in the corners?

It might well be just a simple enable so the software allows the network to "see" the fog light installation just like installing drivers with new hardware on a PC.

Why not negotiate a service deal with the main dealer as most include general software updates in the service package and they may include the fog light software too.

nope that I am aware of, never heard of P1 with this feature (just ABL xenons) so doubt it, but feel free to correct me if you find out (heck, would probably go for it myself ).
but I ts most likely "pay up so the car can 'see' the installed hardware" exactly as cheshired5's analogy.

Update for car is always welcome, if there is any - you probably should go for it (unless your car is mapped then I think it will overwrite the map...?)

Nah, I didn't touch the ECU. I am happy with the stock 150 hp.

I will post an update to this once all the parts have arrived and are installed.

For anyone interested;

the foglights are installed. They are nice, but don't have corner light or any other features.

Hi AndrasL, did the fog light installation require a software update in the end? if you just added the lights without the software update would they function in any capacity? Thanks for your post.
