Electrical: - XC60 D5 AWD 12 plate tailgate full of water, elec issues

I have just bought a second hand 12 plate and the tailgate wouldn`t open on the fob or from the switch on the dash. It will open by hand using the catch on the tailgate below the window and it shuts using the switch on the tailgate. The dealer was supposed to mend it and said he had but I said I would mend it at my end and he dropped his price by £250. However, I took it to a garage today and they informed me the tailgate was full on water and there was also a bit of water in the spare tyre well. The garage said they wouldn`t touch it as that where the electrics are so now I have to take it back to where I bought it who said they would repair it. They didn`t want me to take it to a local main dealer though.
Any ideas as to what is causing this? My garage thinks in maybe the gap between the top spoiler and the roof.
