Default First long run

So Sat drove to St Albans, drove back today. Charged fully before left but nothing coming back apart from a bit of regen. Varying rates of speed, 65/70/80 going down, coming back one across border, sit at 85.

Car avg 39mpg, which pretty impressive for a 2.1 tonner.

I still cannot get over how much improvement they have made to the NVH on the new models. The engine is in audible unless you go full tilt, and even then it’s a distant, pleasant noise.

I agree fully with your comments on how much better the new Recharge cars are than the older ones, Volvo really have done a great job.

As for your economy, those are great figures and helped greatly by the fact the V60 is much more aerodynamic than my XC60.
I recently came back to Norfolk from Derby, on the return journey (around 170 miles) I had an empty battery as there were no places nearby to recharge. doing the journey at similar speeds to your's, I averaged just over 29mpg, the worst I have experienced so far. Goes to show what a difference having charge in the battery makes to economy rather than lugging several 100's of kg's of batteries around with minimal charge.

I was driving in Hybrid and getting some charge back via regen but it clearly didn't add too much, would hate to think what it would have been if I didnt get any regen energy!!!

Keep on enjoying!!

Ha no V60 here mate, full fat V90!!! But yeah, once the battery is done then you either need to hit the charge option for the ISG or find somewhere that’s all downhill!!

My long run (500 km) consumption with constant 120-130 km/h is around 35 British MPG (8l/100 km) with my B5 petrol V90 CC (winter tyres, 1+1 passenger and some luggages). Wish they would have offered Recharge version for the CC, but it seems I wouldn't save much on fuel as I am doing 80% long runs with my car.

Sorry, obviously my eyes didn't work as its all over your signature lol!!

I used the charge option quite a bit when I was in Derby, it's alot more effective and efficient than in my previous Polestar Engineered. I used it once in my old car but it dropped my mpg by about 5-7mpg.
My new car worked much better without destroying efficiency .
Oddly, I couldn't get the car to charge much further than about 80% / 30 miles using the charge option. Must be a safety feature or something.

Yeah most of my drives are short, so the small electric ability of the Recharge, then the mental power on long runs keeps me happy!!

Some guy in a Fiesta ST thought he'd have a go on the M1......

Yeah I've not really tried it yet. Just had a poke about one day when I first got it to see what all the options were. I would need to do another longish run, charge in 1 direction, then try that on the way back to see how hard it hit the fuel. You're probably right about limiting the charge, as if you use a wall charger, when it gets to around 80% the current starts to taper off, so maybe the ISG cannot do that.

Its very clever how it all works, and how seamlessly it flicks between ICE and EV etc

Just driven back from Cornwall today and filled up in Bridgewater with some super unleaded. No battery charge. Car is showing 40.3mpg over the 200 mile journey from Bridgewater.

Filled up with at the same station on the way down yesterday with regular unleaded and from there to St Austell and back to Bridgewater at similar speeds on similar roads (A30 most of the way) again with no charge, the car showed 33.5mpg.

Now I know the A30 is a bit up and down, compared to the M5/M42/M1, but that is quite a difference.....

These numbers are more or less exactly what I got on my first longer roadtrip in a 2023 T6 XC60 recharge.

I started off with a full battery with around 500Km each way for a total of 1000km (620miles) using the hybrid mode with the smart navigation integration.

Now speeds in Spain where I live are generally higher so most of the trip would have been done in around 84mph. I tend to set cruise to where pilot assist tops out for long cruising

I'm pretty happy with this to be honest. I've had the same petrol engine in a XC40 T5 in the past and that was truly terrible cruising at those speeds generally averaging around 21mpg. So that seems to show the hybrid drivetrain does make a difference.

Both cars are really badly impacted by wind resistance and big savings can be had keeping it below 75mph though.
