Default Volvo Battery

I have a 2014 XC60 which I bought new in April of that year, I have done 62K miles and had to fit a new Battery yesterday. I'm very impressed the Battery lasted so long. I got a new Battery from Euro Car Parts for £61.99. I didn't buy an expensive one as I may buy a New Car this year, though sadly it won't be an XC60 as they're far too expensive now. I have loved every moment of the near 10 years I've had this Car but am now looking at a XC40, Nissan Qashqai or Kia Sportage. Happy Motoring XC60 Owners!

I think it can be luck at times with batteries

I replaced the original Varta battery on my wife's 106k miles, 2016 Vivaro this week as we thought it was causing spurious errors. Turns out the battery was OK

My own XC60 battery lasted about 4 years / 70k miles

Is be interested to know who makes Volvo batteries as I'm 100% that Volvo don't have their own battery factory

Very true. My wife has a 2020 Mazda CX-30. Mazda have a pretty good reputation as far as reliability is concerned. The battery on that car failed after about 30 months. Multitude of errors shown on the dash/ code reader, cleared, a multitude of others appeared. New battery fitted under warranty.

It seems odd to me that it's acceptable to OEMs/ Industry watchdogs etc for a slightly failing battery to have such a catastrophic effect on drivers' experiences. It must be very upsetting for someone who knows nothing about cars.

My 2015 XC60 had the factory battery in, I replaced it last winter as a precaution (slow starting if the car had been stood 2 weeks). I gave the old battery to a neighbour as she wanted one for the electric fencing at her stables. Within a week it found its way into her land rover after it broke down, and it's still there....

Hi I have a 2013 XC60 LUX AWD NAV with it's original battery that had just started giving me low battery warnings but functioning fine.

Thought I should get a new one for the winter season

I replaced it with a battery from VOLVO that cost about £163.00, I thought since the old Volvo battery was so good I'd go like for like

They don't. Pretty sure Excel Exide make them for Volvo. interestingly, Excel Exide own Yuasa... Yuasa batteries are also very good.

The original volvo battery on my old V40 lasted about 11 years, but when it did fail, it did so without warning, & i had to suffer the embarrassment of getting a jump start from a vauxhall !

Yes. Just bought a Yuasa for my wife's Vivaro van.

They're also the OEM battery on many motorbike brands. My previous bike (Honda VFR) was still on its original when I sold it at 8 years but the same battery in my current Triumph Sprint ST only lasted 3 years. The Triumph on known for being hard on batteries but I expected longer as its always connected to a smart charger when at home. Replaced with a Motobatt which lasted 8 years before it failed

Keeping your battery in a good state of charge and condition helps massively with longevity. I bought a decent Ctek one at the start of the 2020 lockdown and use it regularly (every couple of months in summer, every couple of weeks in winter) on all our cars.

My 2017 XC60 and my son’s 2017 Mazda 2 are both on original batteries and both are showing as good condition when tested (Topdon battery tester).

Over time, I’ve found that start/stop has become very reliable even on the older cars. Some may see this as a disadvantage though.
