Hot Start not firing issue...please help!
Hi All,
I have a 2011 V60 D5, fuel filter changed about 4 months ago. Car generally runs perfectly although a few months back i ran low on diesel, didnt run out but low... added fuel to the car and drove home as usual - no problem. a few hours later went to the shops, again no problem 10 mins later came out and car would crank but not start... i couldnt hear the in tank pump and called the RAC who eventually towed me home. The next day just out of curiousity i started the car and she fired up no problem at all.... as it's my second car i just left her parked up for a month then over Christmas started up again no problem... yesterday with about half a tank went to work and on the way home stopped to top up the diesel, topped up and then again no sound from in tank pump and cranking but not starting...!! I went home, waited a few hours then went back and she fired up first time... does anyone have any ideas? it seems to be something getting hot thats causing the in tank pump not to operate because when cold starting it's not an issue.... I know a few comments on other Volvos about the in tank pump relay failing when hot but i don't even know whether the V60 has a fuel pump relay or it's part of another module? if so where is it or anything else it could be that may be worth trying??? thanks all. It definitely sounds fuel related. My guesses would be;
-Fuel pump -Injector(s) returning too much fuel to the tank so there's not enough pressure in the fuel rail to start the car -Fuel pressure sensor There may be no fault codes as in a light on the dash, but there could be something in Volvo diagnostics that may point you or a mechanic in the right direction. It needs looking at by somewhere with proper diagnostics.

Not sure whether this applies to Volvos but I recall an issue on the 2.2l Honda diesel where as the fuel pressure regulator started to fail it was generally fine on a cold start, but hot starts were problematic.

Yep, I think fuel pressure sensor. Something alone those lines.
Without diagnostics though, its guess work.
