Can't answer on the matrix bit, sorry.
But you are right to want to strip out the carpets to find the source of the leak. I did just that (on advice from here). I put the driver seat back in & drove my 240 like that whilst waiting for the 'ingress'! In my case it was through the hole where the bonnet release cable comes through (the grommit had perished), fixed with silicone. Other point was through the wiper motor bolts & also all of the drain channels were blocked with years worth of leaves & debris! Yeh I know I'm talking 240 here but am thinking the models are not that distantly related. Oh, on tyres, just to confirm Mike's point. I bought some Corona alloys cheaply, advertised as 'with good Michelin tyres'. Well they were Michelin Agilas, VAN TYRES, all 8-plys of solidness. Yes they were too harsh by a mile, clonking, banging & thumping over the smallest of potholes! Don't fit them unless you want to prematurely where out suspension components! Good luck

Thanks Paul I know what you mean as I have four AGilas that were on a 240 I bought.I tried them in the snow and they were brilliant.BUT when it was all gone and at reasonable speed I could hardly stay in a straight line.It followed every little line and mark on the road,I think it showed up the slack in the bushes that I always meant to get round to doing. They really do grip in the white stuff though, just rubbish the rest of the time.
As I said I need to concentrate on the forthcoming mot three weeks now. Thanks Brian. |

Quick update!
Well not much to report except I had four new tyres fitted today £220,I had to have the Yokohamas in the end which are C Drive2 195/65 R15 95H XL,XL standing for extra load,The ride is less sloppy and a little bit more road noise but not so you'd notice. All I have to do is service it and book the mot.I had a look at the disks and pads when all the wheels were off and all the pads looked new and the disks clean. The various rubber bushes looked passable but could do with changing sometime. No leaks on any dampers. It had an advise last mot for dampness on a damper? It has the Nivomats on the rear with the bellows but they look fine.So hopefully it will fly through the mot.If it doesn't it will make a change as all my volvo's go through with the odd advisory.
I parked her up while the snows threatening and will drive the trusty 740 with Agila tyres fitted on the rear(van tyres)Horrible handling but grips in the snow. Off shopping now so back on line later. Regards Brian. |

New cheapo hubcaps fitted today they look a little like the photoshopped ones in the previous pictures the aries..Way to cold for anything else.Minus 3 according to my remote temp sensor and thats fixed close to my house. Then theres the windchill BBrruu.
Ended up driving it home tonight as I just enjoy driving it so much. And I can plug the fan heater in and leave it all nite!It will never dry the carpets but the rest of the trim is so much better. When I first went to see it everything was wet and horrible. Now it's nice apart from the carpets. The windows hardly mist up when it's parked at work even without the heater. At least it will stop it going mouldy until I can strip it out. Just one thing how many settings on the fan switch on a 940?mine has five but the 740 has four?It Niether has aircon. Regards Brian. |

well done on the tyres i knew yours would be heaver with the red block, my 760 exec was 2020kg, and that's with the alloy v6 in it! lighter and faster.. mace sense being an exec. the ride as you say will surely be better and not only that it will really handle better as well. there is no way in less that the standard 4 door will handle better that it, i can almost guarantee that they thought About all this at the factory, unlike some other limo builders i could mention!
movi ng on.. . what do you think to this one (see attached image)

Thanks Jim I'm glad I had the tyres done as well,I'm hoping the garage unit where I work will fit my new middle silencer tomorrow.Something I would always do myself but in this weather "forget it"He has ramps that can lift 4000Kg and all the right gear to breeze it.Hopefully he wont charge to much.I will also ask his advice on the paintwork while he's at it.The roof has a few scabs and the bonnet needs tidying where the mascot was.I won't actually get him to do it until the weather improves a lot.No rush in other words.
I REALLY like the tints ,not to dark but rather cool looking.Any idea how much for a half decent job?The other unit where I work do tints but always want megga money,They only really deal in classics and oddball rareitys. Mot is looming but I can't find anything wrong so far.I saw a 960 limo on ebay which had real nice scratch guards along the inner sills. The were stainless any idea if they are used on other four door 960's?.Yes stiggy I do like the chrome bits. Any serious suggestions to make her look more regal are welcome. It's definately having a mascot on the bonnet as soon as I can make it easily demountable. And safe for pedestrians. It has two bolt holes in the bonnet anyway.Flags on the front wings?Rear blinds?Inner sill guards=YES,custom grill insert.Chrome hubcaps?.chrome arch covers?. Obviously I don't want to put all this on it but some bits might work. The Tints would suit it and add that little bit more mystery of who's inside. It looked like a big long guinness cake today with all the snow on the top Lol. Many thanks Brian. Last edited by minesa240x3; Dec 1st, 2010 at 01:02. |
