Have you tried cleaning the mechanism and applying lots of WD40. If there is any gunk there, it might stop the mechanism engaging properly

hi sjfedex, pop your bonnet, there are two round rubber stoppers with little arrows on them. They screw up and down when turned.I Think yours are to high and need turning down, the arrows should end up pointing out wards (piont to the head lights) hop this is of some help let us know if this cures it ,

Sounds like you actually need to take the catch mechanism off (3 bolts) turn it around and get in there with an old tooth brush + something to help break up the grease (WD40). I used to have to really thump the bonnet shut before I did this to get it to catch. Remember that WD40 will breakup any oil / grease, so you have to apply some new lubrication afterwards ...

.....it`s nothing to do with the catch!.....if the cable is tight because of dirt or rust it won`t go back to it`s normal position and will hold off the catch letting it lift the bonnet .......for now try pushing back the cable from inside the car with the knob and if this works just clean the cable......
