Default Faulty rear wiper can anyone help

Hello all, I have a 1999 V40 T4, the rear wiper has stopped working, a back street garage that I use says the relay is sending a signal for 1 second to the wiper motor but the motor is not working.
If you put a live signal to this connection the wiper then does a stroke.
Is it right that the signal should only be for 1 second.
I have already changed the motor for a second hand one.
Can anyone please help?

I've not had any experience with V40's but it could be the wiring where the boot hinges. If you open the boot fully you might be able to see some cables in a rubber sleave at a top corner, the cable could have frayed there, if you pearl back the outer rubber sleave you can check for physical damage.
I've had this on three different cars now, all three different makes.

I have checked this and the wire is intact and I do get a signal from the relay for 1 second, my main concern is is this long enough or should the signal stay on longer.

Thanks for your comment.

Does the wiper have a permenant live as well as the switched live (if so it could be the permenant live at fault - have you tried a relay from breakers, or another V40?

I too have a problem with the rear wiper, I suspect it is the relay, please can someone give me an idea where the relay is situated, I heard diiferent positions mentioned. I have looked under the drivers footwell next to the fusebox, which one is it?

Cheers.

Default wiring

have you checked the wiring loom from the main body to the tailgate, it gets fractured due to opening and closing the hatch over the years.
