Default Space saver sizes - other models OK?

Does anyone know if 5-stud space saver wheels from other Volvo models or form Ford Focus will fit my 54plate V50? I've been told a Ford Mondeo will fit, and I want to get one quick off eBay but am unsure of compatibility between models.

Would a spare full size wheel fit in the wheel tray? I know I can fiddle about taking one off and trying, but wondered if anyone knew the answer. Just bought it from auction and found no spare. What a drag!

Thanks

they come with a puncture repair kit :-( I have just sourced a genuine volvo v50 space saver (optional extra). The wheel well is too small to hold a full size spare. as far as I am aware a ford 5 stud space saver will fit however V70 ect space savers dont. Hope that helps.

Paul

Thanks Paul, that's a good start.

I have a toy** wheel from my '58 V50 and from an '04 C-max and as far as I can see there's absolutely no difference between them.

And Yes, a full size wheel does fit in a V50 spare wheel well. Or at least my Spartacus wheel with a 205/50R17 tyre has been sitting there quite happily since Day 1. A purist might argue that it doesn't quite fit because the plastic clip won't engage properly but if I was really worried about that I'd deflate the tyre so that the cover fitted more snugly. I'm not of course all that worried about the loss of 2mm of bootspace headroom

** Afraid I get really cross when I hear those things described as 'space savers' !

Where do Volvo (or indeed the other manufacturers who pull the same stunt) suggest that you put your punctured wheel when you're driving slowly to a nearby tyre fitter ? What do they suggest I do with the 20mm or so of 'space' they wanted to give me above the toy wheel but below the cover: I guess it would probably hold a couple of newspapers but not much else !

Interesting that a full size wheel fits in your wheel well.... I wonder if the awd versions have less space?

Or maybe they have bigger wheels ?

My 205/50R17 only just fits. If you've gone for an 18" wheel to get a wider tread you might find it doesn't fit.

However, all is not lost. Pretty sure all tyres would have same rolling radius so would fit in the hole. If sidewall sticks up too much, you can do what I did with my C-max and put a layer of 'Kingspan' insulation with a circular hole cut out of it across the boot floor then refit cover on top of that.

I have got a "space saver" now lol
I must admit I have never actually tried to fit the full size wheel in there. I based my judgement on the S80 space saver that I carried around till I got the correct one (yes I know the centre bore is different) that raised the floor by over 1".
I will try a full size wheel in the well when next I have one off. They are 205 r50 17" btw same as yours.

That's not so different to the C-max situation. Raising rest of floor by an inch (I think it was 25mm Kingspan) allowed cover to be fitted & look fairly normal. Indeed it was an advantage in some ways as that meant floor was nearer level of bumper (the V50 floor is a lot nearer flat to start with than the C-max).
