Problem after attempting to clean throttle body.
I originally posted this at the end of the throttle body cleaning thread but I don't think many people saw it, if anybody can help I would appreciate it...
Thank you for the guide mate, attempted this today but all did not go as planned! My car is a mid 2005 V50 with a DPF and is a bit different than the pictures in your guide, still two cables to unplug and three torx screws to undo but there are two pipes that I'm assuming go down to the DPF and there are two big pipes held onto the throttle body with two jubilee clips rather than the one on your car. When I removed my throttle body I noticed its got two butterfly valves, one metal and one plastic. The plastic one moves nice and free but the metal one was stuck open and has to be forced to open and close it, it also has like a wedge screwed onto one side of it. I took off a cover that reveals a plastic cog and rack that it rides on but this is worn badly and I think is whats causing the sticking. I took a short video and put it on youtube so you can see what I'm talking about.
I decided to do the job because sometimes the car is sluggish to start up, would this valve being permanently open be causing the startup issues? Am I able to buy the worn parts or will I need a new throttle body? My car does occasionally go into limp mode which I've been assuming was a DPF problem, could this cause the car to enter limp mode? Cheers. *EDIT* - Forgot the mention, I removed the flap from the side that sticks as I was going to chamfer the edges to see if that freed it up, but the mechanism itself sticks so chamfering the flap didn't help. |

I am not sure that part is worn, as the flap on the right hand side on mine moves in the same way

This might seem a silly question but what actually controls the butterfly valves? I cant see any cables or electrics that open and close them? |

I did chamfer it down but the mechanism pictured above is whats getting stuck, it basically has three stages that you can see in the video I posted above, its rather shut half open or open.
