Lots of threads about similar problems, usually on rather older model years than yours.
Thank goodness it's a three week old Selekt purchase. Potentially expensive to replace the light cluster if needed, or if they break the screen when fixing it... But that's not your problem! The other thing is that this problem will have been there for ages... What else have they failed to spot? Unless they promise to guarantee it in writing I'd definitely return the car. There are plenty more nationally that the agents ship around the country to each other |

XC60 Windscreen bonding failure
My 2010 XC60 has had leaking windscreen for sometime. Attempt to get it corrected by the local Volvo main dealer swiftly rebuffed. This is interesting as according to other sources, and common technical sense, this is clearly a Volvo design and manufacturing fault. Not wear and tear. Reading around it appears that for a year or so they were using unsatisfactory bonding material. Changed from initial design spec to "ecofriendly" spec. So it is totally Volvo's responsibility not us owners.
My various attempts to correct with available sealants not successful for very long. Not surprising as the original sealant had a mechanical bonding function too, resistin body movement, providing some structural integrity. Not possible with amateur repairs. Good car spoilt by company high handed attitudes. Result imminent next buy will not be a Volvo. Nor could I honestly recommend the make, sorry and a shame really. Has anybody got any dealer help with this issue? |

I noticed moisture on the inside of the screen on our elderly V70 maybe a couple of months ago. Wasn't sure how bad the leak was, but faced with an upcoming holiday I didn't want to find it had suddenly worsened while away from home.
Long story short, but in view of a narrow window of opportunity I got it removed and resealed by a local auto glass specialist. While chasing more info on the Web I came across the link below which specifically mentions the structural importance of the windscreen. https://www.volvocarspoole.co.uk/new...andards/103580 It's water under the bridge for me now, but if I'd had more time I might have had a dealer inspection and pushed for a free fix - while praying that they didn't break it.

See the sticky at on the home page, its Volvos responsibility, contact them and ask nicely for a goodwill gesture, I did and got it resealed FOC.
Good luck. |

A lot is needed to be taken apart to replace the windscreen, inside the car and out, needs to be done very delicately or will never be the same, knowing the quality of work in my country, I chose to fix it myself.
The side trims of the windscreen comes off by pulling it away, under them you'll find that all the water channel is blocked by dirt, leaves, etc. Cleaning the debris and clearing the water channel will fix most of the leakage problems since the water will not stand long enough to get in. In my XC60 the adhesive bonded great to the car, just not to the windscreen, especially at the top corners, you could lift it a bit with your thumbs. I bought a special sealant, cut some of the old adhesive and re-sealed the corners, hada few days of rain right after - still dry |

Windscreen Leak, all cars
The Leaky unbonded windscreen is not unique to Volvo. They were early adopters (approx 2010) of the bonded windscreen, for safety reasons. Introduced on most models. As part of Ford then this process was also applied to Range Rover models; it soon spread across many other makers.
As they are now often failing there are big quetions as to liability. It is after all, a Design / Manufacturing fault. Like many new processes it took time to get it done properly. Below are some of the many internet scraps of information. - The real question: as it affects Safety and structural rigidity in an accident should it be an MOT failure in the UK/ and who pays? "Volvo Windscreen failure – Notes USA rules – FMVSS stands for Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. They are standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association relating to vehicle safety. A number of these standards set “minimum requirements” or wind shield retention in vehicle accidents. Because the wind shield is the most important safety restraint system in a vehicle, it's critical that the wind shield not come out in an accident. If that were to occur, the passenger compartment would be compromised, occupants could be ejected and the roof could collapse. Any of these scenarios would result in serious injury and possibly death. Range Rover in USA - Recall Details Concern : WINDSCREEN MAY NOT BE SECURE Description : The affected vehicles wind shield may not be fully bonded in to the aperture. Where the wind shield is not bonded, water ingress might occur and there may be reports of increased wind noise. Furthermore, this concern may also be a non-compliance with the regulatory requirements of FMVSS 212 or FMVSS 216 Wind shield Mounting. There are dozens of probably running into three figures of reports on the internet / FB etc of Evoque windscreens failing and allowing water ingress to the cabin.*WHY DO WE NOT GROUP TOGETHER TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION*against Land Rover. In the UK Group Litigation is the equivalent of CLASS ACTION*in the USA. My guess is the only reason Land Rover issued a recall in the USA for the windscreen bonding / lamination failure is the fear of Class Action. Window leaking on mine too
My XC60 started then kept turning off.. immobiliser/abs/parking brake/air bags/ all the warning lights were flashing. Had it recovered to nearest Volvo and told it's the windscreen was loose and not sealed and water had got in and effected all the electronics. They want £1300 to fix the windscreen before drying out the 'components and seeing which ones have survived
I am disabled and this is a lot of money for me to find and more on top apparently is electronics are effected. I am now very very stuck. Seeing these posts has made me realise this is a build problem. Has Volvo taken responsibility for this fault does anyone know? Has this been investigated? Seems very unfair as it's a build problem and the price for fixing it seems to vary hugely. |

I’ve just noticed my windscreen leaking for the second time.
The first time was two years ago following a heavy rainstorm and the passenger footwell was swimming in water. Volvo paid for most of the repair as a goodwill gesture (the dealer made me pay £300 for them to do an inspection - yup, you were right, Zigster, the screen IS leaking). The other day, my wife and I were in it together and she was complaining about how steamed up it was - apparently it often does it. Didn’t seem right to me so I checked and the passenger footwell was sodden. I’ll see if Volvo will help out again. But I have had the car nearly 12 years from new so it might just be time to trade it in for something new and shiny.
