Same here, although on standard suspension.

I think I know what you mean now, there is a small thud but only when I go over like speed bumps, even at a reasonable speed you can hear it a little, certainly not noticed it generally driving it on the road.

Sounds about right to me Bobby. I am used to it and don’t think about it any more. I did expect better but it is what it is and not a problem.

Thanks everyone, you have basically reassured me that it's a general thing with Volvo air suspension and not a fault with my car. I had thought of taking it to the dealers for their opinion, but won't bother now.

After three years of trying fix it - it is just the way volvo air suspension is. It is a lot fussier about tyre pressure and tyre choice. I found 2.4 bar is the best pressure for me on contis. 2.6 I would really tell the difference. I spent 30quid on a quality pressure gauge that is 1% accurate. You would be shocked the variance you would get out of the garden variety ones.

What I find makes noise is the rebound - when suspension recoils from the impact. So over speed bump it will not be hitting the speed bump that will make a noise but the rebound when you drive over it.

I am not convinced that there is anything wrong with Volvo's air suspension setup. But it's not a hoovercraft.
All car suspensions can make a noise when going over a speed bump, it's not because the steel springs are
replaced with air bags that this won't happen anymore.

I assure you none of the standard suspension courtesy cars I had over last three years (two xc90, one xc60) had ride problems over broken roads. They did not float but they salsa did not crash. It’s a feature reserved for air suspension.

I didn't (mean to) say that there are no cars with a faulty air suspension.
But it works well in our car, perhaps I don't fully understand what a broken road is?

Just to throw something else into the mix here, my car (XC90 20s on air) has ridden a whole lot better since I switched from the Conti Silent to Michelin Latitude Sport 3 Acoustic, they definitely absorb the road better, take the edge of the worse bumps which you would feel more with the Conti and are a whole lot quieter, they really have made a big difference to the car (for the better) in my opinion. Stupidly expensive still (the tyres that is), but so glad I went for them.

I assume that "acoustic" means that Michelin aso applies silencing technology?
