...and following on from why rusty 123GTs are far more desirable than cooking 'zons, could some knowledgeable member enlighten me as to the possible reasons why this mostly complete P1800 tinworm farm isn't being snapped up by the optimistic restoration brigade.

I know nowt but we've seen rustier cars go for more.

It's an ES (estate) much less desirable and less value and it looks like it has collapsed in the middle. P1800s rust and are fully welded so a difficult and expensive car to do a thorough and quality restoration on. A mate was selling this a few years back and took a while to sell and it was clean: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...hlight=p1800es Also a rusty Amazon GT you can legally swap out the body from another rust free Amazon of lower value.

Vendor "writes a regular article for the Volvo enthusiasts club".
Oh, OK - so obviously not for us cheapskate Volvo owners club types then....
And how many other examples of "[this] really good, useable Classic, only 13 left on the road with excellent parts availability.” without the excellent parts availability are out there? Would someone care to hazard a guess? Or am I just being b£$$dy pedantic? Again.

The usual bo**ox from pedlars of good but overpriced items of any kind!

It confuses the simple minded, a bit like , “ limited edition “.🐑

I'll see your pedantry and raise you:

"...Margot, named after Gerry’s wife in the Good Life Series of TV shows."

It was Margo and Jerry, and Jerry drove a Yellow 145. Margo drove a green Mk1 Golf, FFS.

That is pedantic but accurate. I suppose with cars being predominantly female, the natural choice is to call it Margot (or maybe Penelope after the actress, Penelope Keith) rather than Jerry as that could be misinterpreted as "Geri" aka Ginger Spice of the Spice Girls. Maybe as this is more of an emotive/subjective thing, we can allow a modicum of "theatrical licence" and let this one slip?

As for pedantry, i think i am probably well known for it, especially for the more distinct terms used on cars. Those bright shiny reflective things attached to doors are door mirrors for example, NOT wing mirrors! Wing mirrors are bolted through the upper face of the front wings, as their name suggests. There are plenty of others but that's my favourite pedantic peeve..................

Margaret Thatcher's Rover P5 sold for £36k.
https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/...isterial-steed
Obvs. didn't have the cachet of Diana's RS Escort, which went for about 18 times as much.

Too much silly money out there...

That "Blue Oval Tax" does add a lot to vehicle prices though!

Sort of surprised the P5BC didn't make a bit more but equally surprised it sold for so much.

A few other of Dianas cars have been through the block, the Metro and i think also her first Mk3 Escort (on a W plate circa 1980/81) so it would appear whoever owns them currently is hiving them off for a tasty profit.

Spot on.

Another irritant for me, albeit a very mild one, is the term 'people carrier'. Shouldn't that be the main heading for a large group ranging from tandems to ocean liners?
