New generation 3 Volvo V70
Looks like we will need another forum come August for this, or put it in the S80 forum.

As soon as I get the price structure from Volvo I will post it. I suspect the T6 will be £40K +.

What a fantastic looking bit of kit!!!
Is the new S60 gonna be of the same vein (I know the xc60 is in the pipeline) or is it to be superceded by the S80, as 1st thought?

Ford?
(At the risk of starting a war) It's not going to be another Ford is it? The V50 seems very Ford like to me compared to the V70

The V50 was based on the Ford but the new V70 is based on the S80 - ish.

Think of the new V70 as an S80 estate.
The current V70 looks like an S60 from the B-pillar forwards but sits on a longer wheelbase like the old S80. The replacement S60 is still a good 2-3 years away. Ford and Volvo have finally decided to go ahead with this only recently. It will be based on the chassis found in the Ford S-Max/Galaxy and new Mondeo (which is also shared with the new S80/V70 albeit in larger form). Looking at the Volvo range, I imagine the new S60 will be a similar size to the present model so it doesn't encroach on the S40 or S80. There are rumours Volvo will go with something more radical in the same way the current S60 was a change when it was launched. I'm guessing a 4-door coupe, a la Mercedes CLS (which has been a huge success for M-B) but smaller.

Reading this thread and other reviews, I'm finding the P3 V70 rather disappointing... It's not that I mind a 'new look' but, honestly, this is a real 'bitsa' and IMHO, a mistake!
Whilst the new 70 shares some of the design cues (of other manufacturers) with the new 80, at least the 80 tries to look like a 60.... this new 70 doesn't look 'balanced' to me. The bits I don't like: Rear - Subaru / Citroen Side - Ford (Mondeo) Doors handles - VW/Audi Front - Audi (headlights), Hyundai (Grille), Mondeo (fog light mount / grille) Dash - BMW (binacle curve), Mercedes (old 190! - central ventialtion and wood effect) Cheap looking rear loading area (plastics and divider rail) Bits I do like: Floating dash fom the 40/50. The chance that the wheel arches might be big enough to allow a decent turning circle! Bigger rear doors Improved safety features Wider rear seats The promised improved drive I know that things often look different when the cars actually arrive and you get to see the cars without the marketing 'bling' fitted but all I can think at the moment is "uggggllllyy"! It'll be interesting to see what the Police forces think of it, or will they do as was supposed to have happened when Rover replaced the SD1 and they bought as many as they could before the 800 came in! I still think that Volvo missed a trick by not producing a 'fastback' 60, maybe they'll be able to slot one into the new version but sadly I think we'll just be getting a Mondeo (or whatever it's called by then) with a 'posh frock'. When are the first ones available to test? It wouldn't be the worst waste of a couple of hours! |

I have to say I really like the look of the new V70. It could be a serious contender for me when I come to change my car at the end of the year.
