Default handing back a car on PCP - VW/Skoda finance

wondered if anyone knows about the following....

2.5 years back i made the stupid mistake of leaving the volvo fold i'd been in for 15 years, and went and purchased a new Skoda Superb. its been the most costly mistake i've ever made.

21000 miles and 29 months in, i'm fed up enough the latest issue being the starting of a failed steering rack. Their dealers could only see me in 3+ weeks. i had a 1500 trip so bugged Skoda UK's for help. Their response was - "if you don't think its safe, then don't do the trip".

their poor customer service has made me decide to cancel the PCP, which i can do from 2 weeks when i am at the VT period.

Mileage and service history is fine.

Anyone know what the score would be on the following:

Steering rack makes a horrible noise. it would be covered under warranty, but Skoda will take at least 3 weeks to inspect the car, and then another 2-3 weeks to order the part if its not in the UK. I'm not prepared to keep it that long and plan to get rid of asap.

I paid for extras like mats (which are awful quality compared to volvo), spare wheel and safety pack and boot liner. Do i get to keep these or have they got to go with the car?

ps....hoping to line up a PCH on a V90 in coming weeks and will rely on my S60 until its delivered

Honest answer I don't know never having been in the position you are.
As for the extras, if you paid a lump sum I would say they are yours, if however their cost was added to your payments and you have not completed the term then I would think they have to stay with the car. Most invoices state goods remain the property of the vendor until full payment is received.

Having experienced VAG customer service and prices via a daughter I would certainly be very wary of their dealer network.

I would have thought the PCP is on the car as supplied from factory the other goods you bought would be separate from this. I have a PCP but the deposit I put down included payment for the mats etc so as far as I am concerned were payed for before taking delivery of the car and therefore are mine. I suppose you will have to wait and see if they request the return of these items when you hand the car back.

thank you chaps.

i spoke with VW finance about the mechanical problem - apparantly this has to be sorted before its handed back to them - even though its a manufacturing fault which would be covered by warranty. even if it takes the local stealer 4-6 weeks to sort, it needs to be done. so i've sent the local dealer an email asking them to sort asap.
Apparantly the spare wheel which i paid for in the overall agreement needs to go back. i'll swipe the boot mat, triangle and ipad holders as they were on a seperate invoice. i'd rather let the dog sleep on the boot mat rather than give it back to them.

i've been given a list of fees if anything is damaged or missing - most of them are listed as "dealer to price" so it could be a bottomless pit. thankfully i've kept the car neatr and tidy and its only the steering rack grind which sorted.
they can learn about the other faults when they punt the car on including:
drivers door seal excessive wind noise at motorway speeds.
automatic gear knob sharp plastic had cut fingers about a dozen times.
speaker farts on big bass.
badly corroded (not worn) rear discs - just poor steel discs which corode like no other disc i've seen.

thats on top of the numerous things i've already had sorted. i thought a german brand would give good reliability and build quality - my 10 year S60 feels better put together.

can't wait to get back to a volvo.

I would be optimistic that such a common part would be already in the UK.

Stu,I don't know what sort of breakdown cover they (Skoda/Vag) do, but have you thought about 'Doing a breakdown' Not too far from home, "Steering too bad/safety etc." picked up straight to dealer.for rectification. Jumping the queue,so to speak? worth a try?

Regards,Keith.

I sympathise. VW Group customer service is horrific - I've stuck with the cars because I need an automatic and the DSG is so good, as are the TSI engines, but I never go near a dealer. My father took delivery of an 'approved used' Golf which had been subject to their '142 point check' and it had a failed window seal, a faulty boot latch which caused the boot light to stay on and drain the battery, and knocking front left suspension, all of which they eventually fixed after a lot of nagging and a couple of polite but firm letters to the manager.
Personally I've had good experiences with the cars but I would not touch a VAG dealer with my bargepole or yours.

Just my experience on Skoda which I have never owned but driven .
My brother who has had Merc and Volvo amongst other brands swears that his Skoda is among the best motor he's had and would buy an other.A lot depends on the dealers and how good they are plus if the parts are available off the shelf if needed..
I had to wait two months for a replacement brake caliper (Brembo)for a Volvo as they were on back order and no dealer could source one in the UK.
Can you not get another dealer/repairer to take on the work and get the job done quicker?
