Traction control issue

Hi all, I've searched for answers and think I know what's up but the garage can't find anything so I thought I'd ask if there could be anything else...

When I turn left sometimes the traction control flashes and cuts power. Not every time, speed and throttle variable and tightness of turn variable so it's not just one particular set of circumstances that triggers it. Never happens turning right and I'm not getting ABS errors on the dash, just this intermittent early traction control cutting in. I know the AWD is working because if I turn off DSTC it goes like hell when I boot it from a wet roundabout and doesn't spin a wheel.

Searching results in ABS rings / sensor or loose bolts in the hub as being the culprit, but it's spent the day in the garage today and they checked those and read codes but found nothing wrong and no codes at all related to traction control or ABS.... and of course it behaved perfectly when they test drove it but played up as wifey was driving it home

So, anyone got any other ideas?

Steering wheel angle sensor acting up perhaps, it may also be the yaw sensor.

I had exactly this issue. You’ll possibly find that on straight flat roads say at 100kph using cruise control, there’s an oh-so-subtle surge and dip in speed. Mine was imperceptible to passengers but I felt it.

Using a Snap-On tool, there were no codes stored so I plotted the wheel speeds of all four wheels and the OSF was reading irrationally. Ten average speed was the same but overlaid with a lot of noise. New ring and sensor later, sorted.

I was looking for a post I did regarding a small crack I found in one of my my reluctor rings, and noticed it was in reply to a post you did last year. https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=268471

I think the garage had diagnosed a corroded reluctor ring but needed to do a wheel bearing change as well.

It's almost certainly the ring that is giving the problem. Might have to go with the bearing change as well.

Well it's looking like a failed CV joint may be the cause, the garage seems confident. So, new drive shaft on order as the old one won't come to bits

Another £1k with the service and MOT... argh

It's going up for sale after my holiday in July, I've had enough

I think that garage is totally ripping you off, and perhaps may not even need that repair. I'd look for another garage nearby.

Nope, I saw the bits and they were well knackered

Bill with service and MOT "only" came to £836, not bad for this car... rotfl

It's cured the traction control issue and the thing is back to normal
