If I remember, your dealer holds the code, should it ever be required.

As far as I remember, yes.

I have been driving Volvo’s since around 2004 and have never needed a radio code.
With the new Sensus system, I am not sure if a code is even required.

Another thing about Volvo’s.
When I bought my first new one, I asked about the “Certificate of Conformity“.
I was told that Volvo UK held it and was not required to be issued with each new car.

I’m not 100% sure about Volvo, but most cars at the factory have the ICE paired to the CANBUS BCU, so every startup it verifies that its the right one. When you install a new one, you need to reprogram the car through diagnostics.

the reason for me asking is.
now winters on the door step,if my battery gives up if i change it myself,not the dealer will i loose the radio code ?????

It may help if you say which model/year of Volvo that you have?

I know that several of the SPA owners have disconnected their battery to clear faults and have not heard of any having radio problems afterwards.

Unfortunately you have posted in the wrong subsection of the forum.

You don’t say, but it sounds like you you an XC60 - if you post in the subsection which starts “S60.....”, this includes the XC60 for your model year, and you may get some owners on there who can help with your query.
