Mine lasted about 12 years to 180K. Replaced as it was getting sluggish to start in winter.

10 years. They usually die in the Winter months.

V70 D5 02 reg, changed original battery about 4 years ago, therefor lasted around 13 years. Replacement Varta battery from motor factors beginning to play up (but is now doing a lot of short 1 mile journeys back and for to work.

V50 2.0d 07 reg changed original battery at around 9 years.(But that wasn’t really a Volvo)

XC70 D5 07 reg, battery manufactured in May 2006, first charged week 21 of 2006, now beginning to play up Nov 2019 - 13 1/2 years old. Just purchased new Volvo battery from dealer cheaper than motor factors 4 years ago, ready to fit when needed. (Both 90Ahr 800A)

So - Very pleased with life of original Volvo batteries, and price of replacements.
Hope Volvo dealer replacements last similar to original fittings. (But expect that government will have forced my diesel off the road with legislation and tax long before that)

I notice I commented on this thread about 8 years ago. The V40 is long gone but I also have a 1998 V70 Tdi and in 2011, its genuine Volvo battery was just over 2 years old so didn't merit any comment at the time.

It's still on the same battery which included a period of being off the road for 8 months and then being worked very hard whilst trying to get it to start whilst setting the injection pump by trial and error after a cambelt failure in 2016.

I also have a 2008 V70 which is still on the original battery too.

My experience is far from unique and when the time comes for replacement I shall be sticking with the genuine article.

Mind you, the battery on my works Ford van fitted with stop start was absolutely fine after 5 years too.

I have recently replaced the Bty on my 1999 V70, and it is only the third one been put in it...the last one went down hill over night struggling to start the car. so made the wife take my "toy" whilst i changed it.

Most bty's are guaranteed for 3 years, so to get more than that is good, getting over 6 years is great, 10 or more is fantastic

My parents VW Passat has just had it's third battery in 21 years. So more than 10 years from each battery isn't bad

The problem is not Volvo batteries (which are not made by Volvo, nor made by a mainstream manufacturer to a weird Volvo spec) .It's |Volvos charge control software. "Very smart" according to my local dealer, meaning 12.1V or less at rest voltage, "they all do it" apparently. I don't believe it !
