Remote Start...confused!

Morning all,

My 2019 V60 has remote start as it's an auto diesel; works fine. However the software in the car and on the VOC app lists "parking climate". However from what I've researched on 'tinterweb is that without the T8 or the cabin heater you cannot use this feature (apart from the residual heat thingy when you're sat in the cabin, but not that you need a timer for this...).

Dropped a line to Volvo Customer care in the UK and now they've confused me even more! The guy I originaly spoke to on the phone didn't know so he forwarded the call to a product specialist - this is the reply I got....

Please be advised that I’ve had an update from our colleagues in our Product department, in relation to your vehicle and the Volvo on Call app, where you advised of no functionality of the ‘Parking Climate’.

Your vehicle should be equipped with ‘Engine Remote Start’ which should allow you to have use of the ‘Parking Climate’ function on your Volvo on Call App … so I can only recommend that you would need to remove and re-install the Volvo on Call app on your phone.

The above is wrong. As you correctly said, the Pre-Conditioning (heating) function of Parking Climate requires the aux-heater to be fitted.

However, Remote Start will obviously pre-heat the engine and cabin although less efficiently than the aux heater.

I went through exactly the same thing with my dealer when I bought my XC60. Took about 4 different technicians to work out that I don’t have parking climate. For a Volvo dealership on one of their best selling models, I’d have thought they’d be better clued up on things.

I wanted to retrofit Apple Car Play/smart phone integration/additional usb and was told it was not possible but the main parts and technician guys. I had to show them the parts listed on the Volvo web site (thanks to some members on here who gave the web link) before they conceded that it could be fitted.

Sounds like your dealer could do with reading this forum regularly and finding out just what their car’s can do...........???

I’ve a D5 XC90 MY19 and has the parking climate in the VOC app too.

This confirms my thinking that it is a glitch, strange as my colleague with an earlier D5 XC90 (think MY17) doesn’t have the option in his app.

I have the option in the car, but never tried it as I'm pretty sure I don't have an aux heater.

Is it possible it is a universal app that is the same for everyone, just some options do not work?

I don't have parking climate on my car, and have never seen any reference to it in the app. I do have the remote start option on the left most tab of the app and generally keep my iOS apps up to date.

Personally, for those who do see the option when there car doesn't have it, I wonder if is something to do with an incorrect configuration for you car on Volvo servers. Perhaps the options are set when the car is first logged with VoC and there is room for error? Then the app contacts the VoC server and is told your car supports the parking climate feature, and thus the app displays the options.

What app are you using?? The iOS app has all the functions on the main screen from top to bottom, Parking Climate is the first one?
I did get PC to work once, I think on cars without the parking heater, it will cool the car subject to ambient temp, and will warm the car using residual heat, but if there is no residual, or the inside of the car is the same as the outside, its just gives you an error.

OK, I use the app a lot on both iOS (iPhone 6s Plus and iPad Pro) and have never seen this option once. The top option for me is always Remote Start.
