V50 brake faults & codes
I've had my V50 4 months now, and am happy with it apart from what seems to be a common issue.
Once every fortnight or so, the car gets errors showing on display, antilock fault service due, brake fault pull over, &/or immobiliser fault. Which can mean engine stopping (but brakes still working fine). It takes about 10 minutes and then clears and drives OK. This is my wife's car and she is afraid to take it too far from home, understandably. It's been to my friendly indie who's plugged it in and cleared the faults a few times. What he's found is that after an event, there seems to be all brake fault codes that there could be are showing. He then tells me to drive it for a few days and come back for a re-read and there's none at all. His diagnosis is that it's something to do with faulty a brake module - either a loose connection or the module is stuffed. Does this sound right, and what do you think my next action should be? Thanks. |

What is your battery voltage at rest, during cranking and with the engine running with full electrical load?

ABS module on V50/Ford Focus are a weak point, mine failed 2 yrs ago. Get the codes read on VIDA to be sure but it wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks for replies,
I'll get the battery tested next time I'm passing the garage, but it is only 6 months old and slightly over-specced. If/when problem re-occurs, I'll report back with the codes. Previously I've not been present, and just been told every brake code going was coming up and they clear them, that's why they reckon it's the brake module rather than a specific piece of hardware. Next time I'll take notes. Just remembered, the only codes that are showing all the time and don't clear, are for the parking sensors, but they work fine. We wondered if it's looking for front ones which aren't fitted. Would that have anything to do with the issues? Thanks. |
