Default Am I driving enough

Hi all
My current car is my 1st diesel. In the morning I drop the missis off and then I go to work. Overall about 4 - 5 miles and the engine gets up to temperature. Around 12 I have 2 short drives, engine dosent warm up and then drive home at 5 (engine dosent warm up)

Every other weekend or so I'll go for a big drive, about 50 - 150 miles.

Am I driving enough to avoid dpf issues???

Cheers

Short answer is, it depends.

We don't know what car you have and you may not even have a DPF.

I often think my car doesnt get driven enough. Unless Im at a petrol station pouring £65 into the tank. Then I change my mind.

Your journeys don’t sound ideal especially in cold weather when it will take much longer to warm the car up. Especially the middle of the day trips.

I do similar, slightly less on a daily basis. I wouldn’t even consider a dpf model as the engine just isn’t getting properly hot often enough. I have a couple of colleagues who have had major issues (non Volvo) with similar driving regimes.

I had an XC90 D5 for 6 years and gave it very similar use; 3 miles to work every day and the occasional 70 mile round trip at weekends. Sometimes it would do short trips only for 3 weeks or more: it did occasionally, maybe 5 or 6 times a year, do much longer trips of 200-300 miles.
It never caused any problems, and I don’t ever recall the DPF regenerating in all that time.
A friend of mine had a Landrover Freelander which had similar use, but he did have DPF issues on several occasions and saw regular regenerations, especially if he used supermarket fuel.

People shouldn't have to change their lifestyle to suit their cars, manufacturers are basically producing a product that is not up to the job.

When was the last time you had to make a long call on your mobile phone, so it would still get a good signal next time you want to use it?

However, I'm sure that prat Dyson will do something akin to a DPF in one of his awful vacuum cleaners, so you have to leave it running for an hour once a week, to keep it from blocking!

I completely agree! There is far too much 'tail wagging the dog' going on in all aspects of life.
If the authorities really cared about people not using phones in their car then they would force manufacturers to come up with a technical solution. Yet they seem more concerned with imposing unenforceable laws on all of us in the hope that there's a bit of revenue in it.
Same with the 'breath of Satan' or exhaust fumes. If they were as deadly as claimed, then just making people pay a bit more for personal transport is hardly addressing the problem. But it does bring in revenue.

If you do those long journeys that frequently I would've thought that would clear it out.
