Help please - how to remove pull switch knobs
Hi all
Re p1800 1963 Jensen In the process of taking my dash out for refurb and the knobs on the 3 pull switched don't want to come off! any suggestions ? Up to now I've pressed in the small pins, sprayed in some wd40, dried clamping a mole wrench on the steel shank and using a large screwdriver to ease them . After 60 years they seem quite happy where they are ! Any suggestions ? anyone got replacements if I snap them while trying again ? Thanks Mike Last edited by p1800; Jul 1st, 2023 at 15:13. |

I thought the black part unscrewed ? then take of the locking ring on the chrome backing plate I use a long nose pliers into the two slots , it comes out with the chrome spline connected to the switch electrics

That is how the pull switches on the 140 are fitted. The black knob unscrews from the shaft and then you unscrew that split ring to release the actual switch mechanism from the dash and the whole thing comes out from the back of the dash once the knob is off. But, the 140 post dates the Amazon by quite a bit so I was unsure about the Amazon; however, it sure looks the same.

Mike;
From the spring and button apparent in the knob area...it does confirm the button needs to be depressed to remove the knob. The button should be able to be removable under (gentle) force on the button...if not, keep applying a lube and (measured, but ever-increasing) force on the button until it is freed enough an able to be fully depressed, at which point the knob should be able to be removed. ...and I will add this link: https://www.sw-em.com/1800_Light_Swi...orrections.htm Good Hunting! |

The Amazon light switch I have in front of me has a knob that screws off. It does have a hole drilled through the shaft to allow you to put a pin through it so that you can stop the shaft turning. This probably stops you damaging the rheostat if the knob is suck. Knob on the light switch has a crinkly edge so you can identify it by feel as the one for lights. Never seen that written down anywhere and I'd guess many don't even notice it! Early 1800 one shown is smooth. Hole may have a tiny grub screw in it under the years of finger grease?
