Default 850 tdi D5252T. info please of location of thermostat

Hi, I need to change my thermostat, as engine running cold. Seems the new part I have looks too large to fit on the housing of the top hose from the rad, so before I go removing all the wrong bits, where is the thermostat located on the engine? Thanks.

As you stand in front of the engine with the bonnet open the stat is to your left i.e. near the alternator, where the top hose connects to the engine block is the stat housing, make sure you give the bolts a good spray of release oil for a day or two before you try taking them out (Torx head screws) - Mike

I thought it should be there, but the new thermostat looks too big to fit in that housing... I will double check the part, then go for that. I saw some info online that it was near the cam shaft pully under the cam belt covers, think that was a totally different engine mind. The bolts are just hex top, maybe already changed once....
