240v Socket
We have the 240v Socket in the rear passenger area.
I'm not with the car right now, but just used the Volvo online manual thingy... it says its 150 watts. I'm guessing this is purely for charging laptops and the like and won't run a kettle while on a journey?? Anyone got one and what do they use it for? Thanks

Even the little-ist 230v kettle will be 800w or so.
The socket works through an inverter. Using electricity to heat is one of the simplest things you can use it for. Converting 12v DC to 230v AC through an inverter to then use the 230v to heat up water is just crazy. You just need a 12v kettle. Unfortunately heating water is very power hungry so 12v kettles tend to be either massively slow or draw too much current for the accessory socket. If you are serious about it, get a high power 12v kettle and run it directly from the battery with some croc clips (and obviously a fuse.....)

Thank you,
Makes sense - We have a little 1000w travel kettle but that gets put into proper mains. I was just wondering if anything else existed, alternatives, and what the socket is actually good for. I've seen the 12v ones on various sites but only that ones that go in a 12v socket. I shall dig around and find one referencing your advice. Looks like I'll be paying out for a coffee otherwise.

I thought the 230v 3 pin socket was to impress or intimidate visitors to the car.

I have one of these, I paid £10 for mine out of Asda but it was a few years ago, boils a small kettle in a few minutes and you can use for heating up anything else.
great for taking to the beach or picnics as well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Portable-...-/174350449280
