I've learnt that the journey is more interesting than the destination for me. I have been building a car for about 6 years now, and it's nearly finished. I'm sort of trying to find jobs to do to prevent that, as I enjoy the making, learning and problem solving more than anything. I will love driving the car, but I know I will need another project pretty much as soon as it is done. Everyone's different of course, but I'm just pointing out that these things are not a binary equation and that you may well gain huge enjoyment from such a task.

It’s great to have a hobby.

"That's a hell of a lot of reading, had to skip through it just to get an idea of the project.
They put in a lot of effort & did a brilliant job, shame they don't seem to want to use it, maybe it's more about the possibilities than the reality.
Also couldn't understand why they didn't shot/media blast to go back to bare metal given the effort they were going to put in.
I think I'm old enough to be realistic, I'll have to see how things progress."

Oh, wow! I didn't expect you to wade through that whole thread! But as you could see, Bob did a lot of fabricating to repair rusted out sections. By the end he must have had a collection of about a zillion C-clamps of various sizes.

Dave 61 - what did you decide to do about your welding? I have a car in similar condition and wondering what to do next.

Hi Clive,
Well I continued with good intentions & removed the engine & gearbox in preparation for getting in it blasted but I'd forgotten how crap it is to grovel around on the floor & ended up feeling pretty rough for a couple of weeks.
I've had Rheumatoid Arthritis for most of my adult life but cope pretty well most of the time but have now developed Osteoarthritis in my spine, I know lucky boy aren't I !
Being realistic i think it's going to be beyond me to actually do it.
Haven't attempted to advertise it as I didn't think the current circumstances made that a good idea & I suppose that would really mean accepting I wouldn't be doing it.
Need to win the lottery & pay someone to do the bodywork & leave me the mechanical bits to play with.
Hope you have a better outcome.
Cheers
Dave

Well after over a another year of dithering I`ve put my Amazon on eBay, just have to be realistic unfortunately.
Would be nice if it went to someone competent enough to restore rather than use as parts.
Item number is 165006344652
Cheers

That was a very candid advertisement - well done.

I hope the motor car goes to a good home.

Best wishes,

Alan

Thank you for that message Alan, I have very rarely sold anything & would not want to mislead anyone or waste their time, still miffed that I won`t be keeping it.
All the best
Dave

Well the good news is that the Amazon went to it`s new home on Friday & I`ve had a couple of messages from the new owner today, one with pictures of the Shotblasting being done & another to say he`d ordered panels from Brookhouse.
So it looks like it will live again after all.
Cheers
Dave

Seriously, it might have a place in your heart but you are starting from scratch in two different ways. Unless you are quick learner and you can mange to weld to a decent standard virtually straight away you will, after a couple years of practice look back at your early efforts and may want to tackle them again. Do the hidden parts first, one step at a time. You're also starting with a car which is going to offer you a challenge where ever you focus you attention. Be prepared to spend a few hundred pounds before you start, on sheet metal tools. A shrinker/stretcher should be in you budget IMO along with the simple stuff. Don't compromise on the welder. Budget will always be budget and you need one that helps you rather than hinders.
I'm sure we will be hearing more from you. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
Hello Derek,
I hope you don`t mind me asking your advice.
Having taken the decision to sell my Amazon project car I have got round to sorting the remaining parts I have & the main one is an overdrive gearbox that the previous owner had attached a label that reads:

v/good o/drive gearbox
Ex 303DPX Ruddspeed

Could you give me some idea of what you think would be a fair price to ask for it, I`ve never been a wheeler dealer & you seem like a knowledgeable decent man to ask.
Cheers
Dave
