From2017 XC90 to 2018 XC90
Picked up my new XC90 Momentum 2018 from the dealer today thinking it would not be any different to my previous 2017 Momentum. How wrong I was. Nice new interface on the infortainment. Much better leather for some reason. But the ride. Man what a difference. Drove home 20 miles thinking it must have air suspension thinking what else it could be thats made the difference. Got out the car checked the tyres. Its running on Michelin Latitude 3 tyres. My 2017 was running Pirelli Scorpion Verdes. Can only think this has made the massive difference. The ride is smooth as butter in comparison to my 2017 Momentum. Well chuffed.

Brand new car on new tyres - bound to feel an improvement on your last memory, which was of your old car after a year of use and bedding-in.
Still, it might be the tyres |

A car doesn't "degrade" that much after one year, does it?

There's an 11 month old XC90 for sale on Volvo Selekt which has done 19,000 miles.
Plenty of time to bed in i'd have thought |

there is also a big difference in the start/stop of the 17/18 cars. I had one for a few weeks pre xmas whilst mine was being fixed and I agree with the OP, the 18 car felt more comfortable and refined overall and that was with my winter conti's swapped onto it and whatever it was running as summer stock so was not down to the tyre difference alone.

I had MY18 xc90 loaner on 21s on air back in September and it was significantly better behaved for ride than my My16 at the time - I complained. I have since had my dealer do something to suspension settings (no replacements) which have fixed my fidgety ride on motorway and they also reduced tyre pressure to low load (normally mine was half way between 240 for low load and 270 for high load). They car has been riding really well.
I still had slow speed crashing over speed bumps but inexplicably this has gone away after my battery and some control unit were replaced to fix my stopstart problems. Tyres and the right pressure really do make a lot of difference so pay attention to the pressure, it varies with temperature. There is the right window anything lower or higher than than that would cause ride problems but for different reasons. If swapping to summer contisilents in a few weeks brings the troubles back I will be buying latitude 3. Life is too short to have bad ride in such nice car.
