Default 64 V40 D4 drinking coolant

I bought my 64 plate V40 D4 in May last year, with 82k on the clock.

It said it was short on coolant, so I filled it up. It only took half a litre, so it wasn't that short, really.

Not a problem until two months ago, after about 20k in all, when it said it was short again.

In the 2000 or so miles since then, it's gone through a bottle and a half of coolant, saying it's short again on a pretty regular basis.

There are no obvious signs of a leak, and it's not like I'm driving aggressively or sitting in heavy traffic (eg rush hour/any long queue), or even being on the road for any long period that might make it overheat.

Any ideas?

1st thing to do is get a coolant pressure test done. This pressurises the system and will show any external leaks. A drop of pressure and no external leak indicates an internal leak either within the car or the engine. Places such as heater matrix tho normally you smell this and find carpets wet ect. Leaks internal on the engine can either be EGR cooler, transmission cooler if it’s an auto, or the head gasket. You don’t always get overheating or pressurising of the header tank if the car is lightly driven and any leaking coolant is simply burnt off leaving no trace. A good garage will be able to help you.

So it turns out the leak is right at the top, right at the back - the guy in the workshop says it's "a bastard" to reach, and he had to take this off and that off just to find it. And then he'll have to get the right part.

Can't help thinking I'm looking at a bill that will read "Parts, £4.50, Labour, £800"

Hi, I don't suppose you have any pictures of where the leak was? Or perhaps a part number of what needed replacing? I've a leak coming from the back of the engine somewhere and I can't pin it down.
