what does the arrow mean on my dash when i move my gear shif

hi guys can anyone tell me what the arrow means on my dash panel when i move the gear shift into either 3 or L it illuminates but doesn't in any of the other positions.
its just so i know what it is really.

thanks very much we have a workshop manual but we don't have the handbook and it doesn't say what it is in the haynes.

we are on the look out for the handbook if ayone has one going spare willing to cover costs.

If you havent pressed the winter mode button and you are getting the arrow it could mean there is a problem with your transmission even a split vacuum hose can produce the arrow

Try pressing winter mode see if the arrow goes

indeed a flashing arrow, when NOT in winter mode [manually selected] means a gearbox or ecu fault

The arrow when the stick is in "3" or "L" is to alert you that you have locked the gearbox down. In "3" it will use 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears, in "L" it will use 1st and 2nd.

The arrow will also show if you have a "Winter" setting on the gearbox, which will force the gearbox into starting in 3rd.

If the light is flashing on and off when you are in any of the modes (P/R/N/D/3/L) then you might have a problem.

i've just been and had a look at it now and yes when its in winter mode the arrow is on when in all the gears but when the winter mode is off it on illuminates in l and 3.
