Default DICE Software Upgrades

I have read a few threads where members have purchased DICE. I believe that the units don't do software upgrades becuase they do not link to Volvo but i have noticed that volvopartswebstore.com sell software upgrades. e.g the XC90 ECM upgrade is $23

http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/pr.../30788940.html

Can these be purchased, downloaded and then uploaded via DICE without going to Volvo?

I've been to a Volvo indi to get software updates done, they have an account with Volvo who email them the software updates needed then upload the updated software themselves via their DICE... so yes I'd assume so

Interesting,

The site lists all the upgrades available for my vehicle, the most expensive is the total upgrade CAN at $65 and the total upgrade MOST which is the same, and, I suspect, this is the most cost effective way of upgrading.

In theory, then, this would be a relatively cheap route to upgrade.

For those without dice it would even be worth buying and getting an independent garage to do the upgrade, or does this sound too good to be true and am i missing something?

Wonder if anyone has any experience of the process and also which upgrades are worth doing?

Does anyone have any experience with what do dealers/independents charge for upgrades, what is the best way to go when it comes to upgrades, i.e. is it worth doing them just because they are available?

it all depends if you have any issues also where i live at certain times of the year volvo do a free health check and in that health check they check to see if there are any new updates for your car.when i had my update done i was informed that if the update did not load i would not pay so i was under the impression that and i have also checked it with vct that i have that i can not see what updates or software uploads have been done .unless the info goes elsewhere ie to volvo uk.

To be able to buy software from Volvo you have to be registered as a company(vat number necessary). Can buy 1 hour 1 day 7 days 1 month and 1 year subscriptions. When have everything ready need to ring service and give them your details(independent partner number etc\) and vin+ part number+of course your credit card details . cheapest subscription is about 40 pounds. even if pay for 24 hours can use it fully for 8(have to order software in service).

I was just reading this thread with interest.

Could someone please clarify the following. If I loaded VIDA onto a laptop what would I need to connect it to the vehicle? Also when and if it gets connected what would I be able to do (without any subscriptions and connections to Volvo online)? Would I just have a fancy parts manual or would I be able to interogate the vehicle to any extent?
