Let me start by saying thank you very much KBB for the time and trouble you have taken looking at my problem. I really appreciate your efforts, and also your detailed explanation of your thinking - this is really helpful.

It's getting dark here now and we're expecting more rain and high winds tomorrow so it may be a day or so before I can check the EVAP situation but I will do that as soon as possible and feed back the results.

Also the garages are shut for a few days given the holidays so I was wondering if you think it would be possible for me to jury rig a pressure test by using a foot bicycle pump with attached pressure gauge - I have one that goes up to at least 120 psi, or would this not be sufficient?

Incidentally I just reread my previous comments and realised I should have said the code occurs mainly in closed loop but occasionally in open loop, also I have noticed a pronounced momentary (5 seconds or so) heavy stench of petrol inside the car after starting for some time now - probably for several years, although the code problem is very recent.

Once more, thank you very much for your help.
Bernard
