Default Fuel Problem....and answer

HI everyone, just posting some info that may help someone at sometime.

My V502.0D E4 developed a fault recently whereby under reasonably hard acceleration at about 3000rpm in third gear territory the engine would hesitate and almost stall- but not quite. As you then changed up it would carry on ok and probably be fine.
Starting and idling was no problem. Driving normally without too much demand was fine, but only when you needed a rapid getaway did the fault manifest itself as hesitation and slight kangarooing.

Fault turned out to be a dodgy fuel pipe connection that enabled air to be drawn in and effectively not enough fuel was supplied under certain load conditions.
I can't be more specific as I didn't fix the fault so not sure of exact location etc.

The car also had a split pipe (different one)on fuel distribution side that actually was leaking down the off inner whell arch/wing. This was found first and did improve things but the real fault was air as already mentioned.

This second fault was found by me whilst having a look under car over Xmas week, but would not have been obvious except for a slight discolouration of the lower front wishbone where the fuel was soaked up by dirt. That said I did notice a slight degradation in economy.

Anyway car now accelerates as before right up through the revs.
By the way, dealer was very good with what may well have been an ongoing problem.

regards.

I'm going to dredge up this thread as I've been getting exactly the same symptoms.

The missfire/stall he talks about I only ever get it if i put foot down on the motorway.

Foot goes down, car surges forward for a few seconds then BAM it suddenly Kangaroos/misfires violently before picking up where it left off. Its NOT EGR problems, Ive checked the pipes and they're suprisingly soot free.

I always put it down to air in the fuel system but im now going to check all my fuel lines for leaks as you can STILL see largish bubbles in the line.

I'm leaning towards filter problems, so will drain it off sometime soon. Whilst mine is not exhibiting the problem as violently as above, it still gets a similar condition under certain loads (and lately I think cornering direction) - no air is visible in the line coming out of the filter though

Can I suggest to replace it rather than just drain. You should then be able to discount it and start looking elsewhere should the fault re-occur.
It appears to me from reading the forum generally that fuel filters can cause this type of problem throughout the range, probably caused by dirty or cheap supermarket fuel?
