Default Heater Fan Resistor

Hi... I've got a 54 reg 2.0d SE V50 and my heater fan has stopped working. Everything else works on the system as far as I can tell, i.e there is still heat and AC etc but the blower doesn't work. I've checked all the fuses (in car and under bonnet) and the relay. So am I right in thinking it is the resistor failing? Can anyone tell me where it is please and how I can replace it? Just to add, when I was driving along yesterday after 3 days without it working it came on for about 5 seconds and then went off again. many thanks in advance...

These cars don't have heater fan resistors,

The speed is controlled by the a signal wire from CEM to back of fan motor,

Fan motors are a dash out job altho they can be done without but its not easy
