Default 56 C70 - hardtop is stuck

Hi there,
I have just bought a C70 2006, 77000 miles.
The roof worked fine for the first week
Today I tried to open the roof, but it stopped just as the boot flap opened. I got a roof error on the dash and couldn't open or close the roof. I switched the ignition off and back on, then held the roof close button for 10+ seconds and the roof did then close.
I tried again later - same issue. Got the roof closed by holding the close button down for a while. I'm not pushing my luck and trying it again.

Any ideas what the issue may be? Cylinders? Hydraulic fluid? What is the first thing to check?

Many thanks all

Hi plongsta
Try Ace servicing and repairs in Hemel, he fixed my hardtop so knows them quite well. If you need parts use a breaker as they are so much cheaper than a dealer. 01442 247526 and ask for Simon or leave a message.

thanks for the suggestion Fred, but it looks like Ace have shut up shop and are no longer trading.

Do you / anyone else have any suggestions as to where I should start troubleshooting my hardtop issues?

Many thanks

When I was considering an Eos this guy really knew his stuff. May be worth a call?

Hi Plongsta
I knew he had left the premises but was working as a mobile, I will see if I am able to get an alternative number for you, or indeed if he has ceased to trade.
Regards
Fred

It’s be brilliant if you could Fred, as the ‘yellow button’ on mine doesn’t work, and Hemel is local to me. Quintec in Bovingdon are supposed to be Volvo experts, but they won’t touch the C70 hardtop, unfortunately.

Hi Baxlin
Alternatively, BPC Motor Engineers in Chesham are Volvo specialists I believe but they work on all makes. They can be googled, not sure what their labour costs are though. Quintec used to work for them but set up on his own, I think he's more engine orientated but I'll stand corrected.

Thanks, Fred, I know of BPC, they have worked on my car in the past, but I’ve been told (allegedly, unconfirmed, plus all other disclaimers) that they are not the Volvo experts they were since Alec left.

If I can’t find anyone else though, I’ll go back there. But as the roof works fine apart from the yellow button facility, I may keep looking.

Hi Plongsta/Baxlin
Further to my previous posts, Ace Servicing is indeed no more but the mechanic, Alan is working out of his friends garage in Bedmond. He can be contacted on 07512 962006.
