Default Really stiff clutch pedal

This is the last serial moan.

The clutch works fine but the pedal is really stiff when compared to the last car I drove.
Its hard to press the pedal down does anyone know the causes of this?

Had the same problem with mine(creaking)although the pedal worked and clutch, I had the master cylinder changed and is now like a new car when putting my foot down to change gear. I did look to see if theres anything to oil/grease, but as mines fluid and not cable, there wasnt anything. So by changing the master cured the problem.

I have the same problem.
My garage sais it is the clutch itself which needs replacement.

I'd be amazed if the stiffness wasn't the clutch. The master and slave cylinders aren't going to put up much resistance - they're there to aid releasing the clutch! You could try unbolting the slave cylinder so the output actuation rod has nothing to push against and then pump the clutch pedal. If there's no resistance (there won't be) - it's the clutch itself that's the problem.

i bought a V40 x reg just before christmas,i had a nissan before that and the clutch pedel was very light, i thought the volvo one, was like being stuck in concreate, compared to the nissan, i think the clutch pedals are just hevey on volvos, i could be wrong???? , but it sounds like yours may have a more sinister problem

yes i've been wondering if its just a volvo thing?

i do have a that clicking noise sometimes on the pedal which i believe is down to the master cylinder but i take coupeboy's point about the limited resistance the cylinder is going to provide.

Might jut live with it.... might change it depends how i feel

I think it all depends on what car you're in and what you've got used to. I had one car (a 51 reg ****ron Xsara) where the clutch pedal felt like there was nothing connected to it. At the other end of the scale I had a Cavalier for a while whose clutch was so heavy that I sometimes it felt like I just done a few hours at the gymn, but only exercised one leg.

The clutch on my 940 is firm but I wouldn't say it is stiff compared to what I've got used to over the years, with the exception of the Xsara.

Default Stiff clutch pedal

Hi I’m about to buy my 1st Volvo s40 2.0D. Anything I need to look out for? Also the clutch pedal was a bit stiff. Ok I’m used to a polos clutch so is this normal on a Volvo? Thanks
