Default low

Looks like the piston rings might be shot or the valves are knackered as that's quite low compression. Should be up around 175-190. How much oil you getting through? You said the plugs were black? Any blue smoke under boost?
Carl.

That much?? The figures I got are roughly 9bar, which I thought was about right given atmos pressure of 1bar and a compression ratio of 9-ish:1

Not losing any oil really, not a great deal of smoke - I haven't noticed any and I do occasionally look when booting it

I did test it cold, removing one plug at a time and cranking with the coil to distributor lead disconnected.

Couldn't find a figure online for the recommended pressure though...

A guy at work suggested tight tappets as a problem, could it cause this?

Default rev's

If the tappets are tight it won't rev or won't rev freely. Did you see if there's any CO in the coolant?

Ok, it does rev ok-ish considering it's running badly... Do you mean carbon monoxide?? How do I check for that? Will check it in the daylight tomorrow...

If you have a testing kit or take it down the garage they can do it in 10 minutes to see if the hg gone, turns yellow is carbon monoxide is present.
