Its never been changed as far as I know. (who changes the poer steering fluid?)
So whats in it should be the right stuff. If the seals are gone then I guess that is just bad luck/fare ware and tear?

I do have a spare air mass meter (Its a round tube with a boosch conector) I don't know if its any good but I could test it on my own car. If t came to it. You could use the one from my car to prove it either way.

You could check the thermostat & flap inside the airbox to make sure it isn't stuck in the hot-air position.

Yes it superceeded the red fluid in the 1990's specificaly to improve the low temperature performance of the power steering . so technicaly you no longer have the right fluid in it . Nothing will help a faulty rack but it may help if your steering is ok in the summer on red fluid .

Cool Many problems

[QUOTE=s.hammond;810860]Hi,
i think my volvo bubble is bursting?

You will go through endless minor dramas , if you are pedantic, a 20 yr old car worth the same as a childs game consol is not the best way to have an easy life.
But they do give you a thing to talk about on forums.
My diesel auto 940 gives me no trouble, ive had it 4 years and it is great.
My petrol man 940 is a bucket of warning lights, heavy fuel consumption and just about every other hassle imaginable.
It will be stripped for usefull parts, and then crushed in march and another builders shopping trolly will be pressed into service for its final few months.
In the meantime i will view with interest your many issues and refrain from any further comment.

I saved the MAF sensor off my 940 before the old girl went to her final resting place, because I've read that these are a relatively common point of failure. If you're stuck, I might be able to help you out.

This happened to mine. Apparently it is common. It didn't kill anything but it just meant performance was rubbish in hot weather, although I guess I was lucky cos I spotted it before it killed the MAF.

Incidentally, before writing off the MAF or other components, it might be worth renewing things like HT leads and giving the whole induction tract a good clean. Worked wonders for my dear old Helga (RIP). Her death was nowt to do with her engine in the end, poor old girl suffered suspension failure, excess clutch wear, and the brakes seized.

i'm waiting for steve to contact me, but in the mean time how much would you want for it? Did it come from a 2.0 turbo? and yes your right i'll check the ignition side of things.
i'm also going to interrogate the ecu to see what codes have been stored, i don't think it's crud in the tank as i 've run many a car down to the red with no problems plus i'd been using the car for two days with no problems.
The turbo's well at least mine doesn't have the heat flap, but only way going to find out is by getting out there and having a good look over everything. But to be honest even though i miss driving it i'm really enjoyng my escort again, trouble free motoring with decent mpg!!!

Sorry for the delayed response, I hardly ever check up on here since I parted with my 940.

I presume you've got it sorted by now? If not I still have that MAF sensor. Its off the 2.3 normally aspirated (B230F) engine, but I believe they all have the same MAF. I could be wrong about that though.

As for price, I'm not sure what they're worth really. If you need it I'll probably let it go for p&p&p (postage, packing and a couple of pints)

If you want it, maybe PM me. That way I get an email to remind me to come back and check the forum.
