940 non starter
hi, i,ve been racking my brain it hurts, my m8 has a 940 that wont start, it drove perfect yestaday, went out this morn and just turns over but no go, i replaced the plugs, cap, rotor arm, but still no go, i checked the connector from the crank sensor, incase it was damp,re-conected it and the car tried to sart for a couple of secs, then went back to not fireing, took the crank sensor out ,it was sooty/dirty, cleaned the tip,put it back in and it again tried to start, then went back to not trying ,any ideas on what could be going on, oh and no codes

more tests and imfo please
three things needed spark fuel and compression you have compression now its either fuel or electrical?
put an old plug on on of the plug leads and turn over is there spark if so the crank sensor is ok. can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn on the inigition if not theres a fuel problem. take of the fuel cap with the inigition on can you hear the in tank pump. if fuel problem give the fuel relay a light tap its behind the fuse box big relay at the back r/h either white most likely or green if an se. |

often overlooked is the fuel filter....... if it is rusty and doesn't look like it has ever been touched.... change it! if you have no fuel pressure in the fuel rail it aint going to start. Take a vacuum hose off the inlet manifold and squirt some petrol in.. if it starts you know it is fuel feed issue of some sort. You could also crack the fuel rail pipe to see if there is pressure in it (BE CAREFUL NOT TO SQUIRT FUEL IN THE WRONG DIRECTION)

Are the plugs getting wet ? If they aren't then it might be the relay that is fitted to the inner wing. It gets called different things but is connected to the injectors. If it's a non turbo car it's fitted on the engine compartment in front of the suspension strut on the drivers side. Turbo cars have them on the passenger side in a similar place.
