Default 940 heater matrix failure

Hi to All!

Off the road again, need three new parts, one of them the heater matrix! I have only just had new heater matrix hoses fitted and now the matrix has failed. Even though I can cope with the topping up of the coolant, I can't drive as the steaming up of the screen has got worse and worse and its impossible to get and maintain a clear enough screen for safe driving.

I had a new valve fitted when they fitted the new hoses just recently, shall I order a new valve as well as the matrix? I assume this is a whole dash board out jobby?

If your car has aircon the valve will be in engine bay so will not be needed. Changing the matrix does involve removing a fair bit of lower dash and is very time consuming

So many brands of heater matrix to choose from and such a price range!?

Edit. Just found the Volvo part number is 1307277. Just seen previous threads which say that as this is brass try to stick with your original one and get that repaired rather than buy a non-oem part?

Edit, also reading that the non-oem aluminium ones put out about 30 to 40% less heat?

Edit, Volvo don't seem to make 1307277 any more? I am going to get my garage to take mine out and I am going to get it refurbished.

Can anyone please tell me looking at this photo of this brass and copper one if it is definitely the right one for my car? They are a bit mixed up in the 940 model listings?

If your car has Aircon that will fit. If it is indeed brass copper construction it's a good price. The cheap Nissens ones are ok but heat output is reduced

Thank you! I do have aircon, I will snap it up now!

Edit, purchased! I am going to get my garage to give me the old one back and I'll get that refurbished and keep it or flog it on to some needy soul on here. Nothing beats the Volvo heater!

In another post, under 'Sales' I have asked whether the replacement Nissens radiators are better at cooling than the Nissens replacement heater matrix are at giving out heat?

All opinions welcome...

And why are the replacement heater matrix so poor? After all, aluminium radiators are used in the heating industry to great effect.

That does indeed appear to be a good price, especially as its supposed to be copper/brass.

Just for your info, I'd seen many mentions of this as a weak point, and bought a failed one off eBay for a £1+postage a couple of months ago.

Quotes I've had for refurbishment have been around £150 + VAT, hence its still sitting on my desk.

Absolutely agree, Volvo heater cannot be beaten and so much appreciated after 2 years with a heaterless A6

Cheers
Steve
