Default Is this a Pierburg Carburetor?

Just want to double check - cant see any obvious markings

Is this a Pierburg?

Though it best to check as I posted a WTB the other day for a spare.

If it is then any ideas re the model number?

I am new to carbs in relation to 240's - most of my previous ones have been injection

This is a 1989 model with a B230K engine

Thanks in advance for any advice
Ian

I believe so, the inlet manifold is the correct type but the black hose elbow is hiding most of it!!

The K engines came with the 'undesirable' carb, which is downdraft like yours.

My suggestion would be the Weber conversion, specifically available for a 740, but it's the same engine.

However, I do a complete inlet from a B21a (sidedraft Stromberg type carb) in my garage doing precisely nothing!

Solex Cisac I think, on the B230K.

Thanks gents

Pierburg or Solex
So, I need to remove the top fitting to provide a better view of the carb itself - if I do this will it be obvious if this is a Pierburg or a Solex?

Webber conversion
I am intrigued by the idea of a Webber conversion - I presume that these are better performance with good spares availability?

Is this a straightforward process - do other bits need changing such as the throttle/choke cables and other bits for example?

Ball park figure re cost? This would be fitted of course as I wouldnt want to attempt it myself. Recommendations for someone who could do this in the SE?

Cheers
Ian

There should be some markings on the body underneath the black plastic housing, a photo or 2 of that should give someone who knows enough to say what it is

I don't know much about the standard fitment, but here's some more info on the Weber conversion:

http://www.webcon.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=839

I have fitted the same sort of thing, but using cobbled together parts. The carb itself (32/34DMTL) is widely used from VW Polos up to LR defenders, I believe it can flow up to about 160hp, so is well suited to the Volvo. Mine came from a VW bus originally, but I bought correct jets to suit the above kit and now it's drives brilliantly.

The advantage is a mechanical twin choke(/barrel/orifice/whatever you want to call it) design, 90% of driving is done on one choke giving good efficiency, but the second is available when more power is needed.

If you are confident enough to swap your carb, you have sufficient skills to do the conversion.

That's a Solex Cisac Z11. Overly complicated and fragile carb.

If you're thinking of changing to a Pierburg you'll need a new inlet manifold and intake pipe. Also a hot start valve (mounted up on the engine compartment bulkhead).

You will also need to decide if you are keeping the EGR and Pulsair systems as the Pierburg bits lack a few of the vacuum connections. Most people just dump them though.

This is the Pierburg setup...
