Multilink Bump-stop 9140490. Extinct?
Folks,
Most of the usual sources are saying "out of stock". Is there a known work-around using another rubber of the same dimensions, but with a thread inserted? |

That part does appear to have been discontinued.
I think the approach I would take would be to clean up the metal base with the thread and try to find a generic bump stop of similar dimensions to stick to it with suitable adhesive. I wonder whether it might also be possible to modify an XC90 bump stop to fit. Part number 8672488. That's just an idea, I've not tried it. The M8 thread is probably in the wrong place and certainly not at the right angle. Might be an expensive disaster. |

Thank-you, Forrest.
Meanwhile, this appears to be the item:- https://www.rendcarparts.com/parts-f...0490/RD9140490 Are there any known potential calamities arising from the lack of bump-stop? When it was intact, there were mild marks on the car body where it engaged, indicting use. |

If you have the original bracket then a generic bump stop can be fastened in place with polyurethane adhesive/sealant.
A through bolt also helps. I believe these stops are required for the MOT test. The Volvo 240 has similar large stops and the above method used- brackets tend to rust through but straight forward to make (2 bolts into the chassis rail) Bob. |

Thank-you, Bob.
Any idea of a source of a generic bump stop, spec., etc? I am well-used to "fabricating and improvising", but need to start from the right place. By some strange quirk, I suspect that 240 spares are now more easily come by than 960 ones. |

Hi:~
I made a couple of new brackets for my 240 but used the old bump stops- perhaps a 240 breaker can help- these are a good size. Ebay has quite a few and GSF advertises them, not sure about the size though. Good Luck. Bob. |

They are easy to remove from a scrapped 960.
Just use pliers around the rubber; the threaded rod is firmly attached to it. |
