Default B20 oil

Hello,
What is the recommended engine oil for athe B20 engine?
Also the filter, is there a Mann or similar equivalent to the original filter used.
I was going to try my local motor factors store.
Thanks,
Seamus

Depends on the condition of the engine. I have used miller oils for classic car 10w50 or even the halfords Classic car oil is relatively decent. Use the Volvo branded filter

Good brand of 20/50 with a high zinc content. Over 1000ppm is good. Mann W917 or Genuine Volvo from the dealer or usual suspects.

I use OPIE oils they sell oil and filters and will recommend the correct oil based on what your doing with it, if my memory is correct they recommended Castrol magnaflux for the B18 and I can’t see why the B20 would be any different, give them a call the oil change kits come with the correct qty of oil the filter, a cardboard funnel and plastic gloves

Genuine Volvo oil filters have a 1 way valve included. This prevents the oil draining back into the sump and ensures oil flow on start up. Some other branded filters may not have the valve. i always fit genuine ones. They are cheap enough and readily available.

Part number 3517857, used across a lot of Volvo cars including Penta blocks, sometimes those marine sources are a bit cheaper oddly.

I’m sure the original part number has been superseded a few times over theyears, and the new ones are likely better and still fit.
