12 volts power in the cockpit

Hi all
i need to have a 12v source which is always powered.
Does anyone know if there is a provision or a hack to do that apart laying a cable from the boot "cigarette lighter" port?

Car is usual 2018 V60CC D4 AWD

The OBD2 port is permanently live, adapters for either 12v or 5v usb are available on eBay amongst others.

An 80Ah battery at 12.6V has 1,008Wh of energy. Below 11.8v you could find your battery does not have enough energy to crank a cold diesel.

You've got less than 64Wh to play with for that constant consumption you'd be better with a second battery setup.

Don't quote me but I think the fuse is 15 amp, wether 12v or 5v the OBD2 port will handle 2 amps.

well not going to use 2A continuosly. that would be peak when in use. continuous consumption would be in the milliamp range

You will have no problem at all, just keep an eye on battery voltage, the deeper you discharge the shorter the lifespan.

I've always sourced a permanent live from the ignition switch. I'm willing to be corrected, but that seems like the most sensible place to me. You'll probably be using a thinner gauge wire, so make sure you put a fuse in line.
