The Carlton is nice but it's red and the 1800 engine. The 1800 was ok (just!) in the Manta GT/J and the Astra but is underpowered in the Carlton, especially the estate!

The Renault 12 is certainly an oddball. In extroarinarily nice condition at first glance but it has had a new shell, everything else rebuilt with a more modern engine and gearbox and other more modern upgrades.
For someone who could tolerate it being French, it looks like it would actually be a good car.

This qualifies for the free tax in 2026, so I suppose it is worth something. 2 grand though? Why would one want it I wonder?

£5,400 for an old Renault 12 - people have too much money.

I don't think that's a bad price for these days, 2k is pretty much banger money. I like a big Vauxhall!!

No Othen my post about VED exemption wasn't a cheap shot[or at least it wasn't meant to be] I have absolutely no objection to 40 years old and older being exempt.I was just trying to point out that should pay per mile replace VED then that perk will disappear unless they can differentiate the "historics" from the rest.My two cars are far from reaching the 40 year milestone, the V70 will be 25 next January and the Omega 25 next March so obviously not historic[and you could make the case they're not even "classics" and I wouldn't argue-that's not the reason I bought them]and I accept I have to pay VED on them. The MoT exemption I still think is a stupid idea as it's too open to abuse by the less scrupulous who drive amongst us.A slightly modified MoT as has been suggested by MooMoo[I think]would be better than no test at all.

I don't recall it. When I first opened the link my immediate thought was a R-R Shadow. It is very Shadowesque. A very elegant example - I do prefer the later dash as fitted to the 'E' version, but the small bumpers look much more elegant than the later big bumpers. My 164E was a very comfortable delightful ride.
