S40 V40 Cars: Car Tax up again

1.8 SE V40 2003 - annual tax has gone up to £280.00 per year! Penalising the poor as usual through an emissions tax when it used to be a vehicle tax.

I wouldn't buy a 1.0 eco-boost dinky toy or a battery powered pony if they charged double the tax because with the first one the eco-engines and water pumps blow up within a year and the second there are no free battery charging units in the UK like there are everywhere in Norway.

I'm keeping my V40 until it dies, which is more likely than the planet dying in my lifetime

They all act as if I drive a eco3 car if I could affort a Eco6.They punish you becouse you are poor and did not steel enough money from the goverment.

If it's any consolation, Morrismen, we pay €305 for three months on our 2.5 diesel. Yes, you read correctly...€305 for 3 months or €1080 per annum. Pre 2009 the tax system is based on engine capacity. Post 2009 it's based on emissions...a Green Party initiative to stop the planet melting and save the automotive industry from going under.

The system in the Republic of Ireland, in my humble opinion, is total discriminatory. For example; Mr. New Company Car can drive 30,000 miles a year for the princely sum of €200 whereas we, the ones who choose to maintain an older vehicle, do approximately 8,000 miles for €1080 or €1220 if paid quarterly. Shocking isn't it!
