Default no power to tailgate

Morning All,
I am onto my fourth V70 now, having a P1 T5, a P1 2.4 and P2 2.5T AWD.
I have acquired a 2002 V70 T5 which mechanically is quite sound for its 168k miles. The tailgate lock was stuck in the locked position. With help from a previous thread, i have managed to get it open from inside, and now it is opens but wont lock. The high level brake light and rear washer motor are also not working. I have checked the fuses in the rear fuse bay, and also the one under the bonnet for the rear wiper motor and relays for these individually, but i suspect that there isn't any power to the tailgate at all. Is there one fault that would cause all these symptoms? I have taken the tailgate trim off and looked for the common fractured wires by the hinge, but it all looks fine. Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks for the collective wisdom!

Your symptoms are classic wiring harness failure in the rear door hinge.

Just looking at the wiring is not enough you need to actually test the continuity of the individual wires, as the insulation can look fine but the wire can be broken within.

There are several posts on this forum about it I suggest you look them up.

Agreed. Pull the plastic hinge cover off as well as interior panels and spill off any plastic connectors keeping harness in place then pull out of hinge about 8”. You will find the spot where many wires have shredded.

Hi Bob and Pierre,

You were right of course! the red live feed and a couple of other wires had been chewed through about 10cm down from the hinge. Half an hour and a lot of insulating tape later, and power is restored to the lock and washer motor. Feeling pretty smug! Thanks for your help guys
