I ordered them and they arrived today. I wanted the 80NM but they sent the 60 instead. However, works perfectly ad that price if they last a year I'll just some more. Thaks for the tip. :-)

I also ordered 80nm and got 60nm..... they work fine though, easy to fit.... pop the seats down and withdraw the lock wires from both ball sockets using a small screwdriver and a pair of long nose pliers. Remove the lock wires on the replacement units, locate the ball seats and reinstall the lock wires.

Replaced mine with these 80Nm struts in June 2018....still working perfectly without any sign of dropping down even over our larger potholes & "traffic calming humps".............and believe you me we've got some that regularly rip exhausts off 3x9s response vehicles in the Medway area!

It's interesting that two people have now been sent 60Nm versions and have them working fine, whereas a couple of other people have 80Nm versions and still have the guard drop occasionally. As presumably we are all fitting them to exactly the same type of dog guard in basically the same model of car, I wonder if perhaps the manufacturing tolerances of the struts are not particularly strict and basically it's just luck if each of us get good ones or bad ones? For the price, I'm certainly not complaining though. Almost two years after I fitted mine, my dog guard still hasn't dropped even once, so maybe if yours does it would be worth a gamble on buying another pair of struts and hoping for better luck the second time.

My 2 struts arrived today....both labelled 60Nm although I ordered 80Nm.

Yet to fit them due to ill health (not virus related)....will update when fitted.

UPDATE

Despite my health, I couldn’t resist fitting the struts. The first Volvo strut I removed was definitely U/S with no pressure in it at all. Fitted the cheap 60Nm strut (easily just clips on) and noticed a slight difference in the dog guard ability or stay up. Still seemed weak though. So I took the other strut off. But once off, it was very apparent that it was serviceable as it sprung to the fully extended position and was hard to push back in. I fitted a new 60Nm strut anyway and it was obvious that 2 new cheap 60Nm struts are not man enough to hold the dog guard up. Maybe the 80Nm (which I ordered, but didn’t receive) would be better. Anyway, I therefore removed the 2nd new strut and refitted the original Volvo strut, with difficulty. There’s a LOT more pressure in a serviceable Volvo strut than the cheap 60Nm strut. However, I am hoping that with one good Volvo strut and one cheap 60Nm strut, things will be better and the dog guard will stay in the raised position. As I am not driving at the moment, I have yet to test it out. I will update again when I have tested it.

Default Update

Don’t get out much nowadays but finally managed a little trip in my XC70, the first since fitting the one weak (60Nm) gas strut to the dog guard.

So to summarise, I now have one original Volvo working strut and one of the cheap 60Nm struts fitted to the guard. The guard stayed UP during my trip, which included a variety of smooth and rough roads. However, as mentioned before, I did originally fit both of the cheap struts and the guard would not stay up, even when the car was stationary.

Lastly, the ebay seller eventually contacted me saying to send them back if not satisfied. However, they added that they don’t have any 80Nm in stock, even though their listing still lists them. Bearing in mind they were £3.58 for the pair, including p&p, I don’t think I will bother. Some of their feedback shows that they don’t follow up with refunds.

Has anyone found stronger alternatives? There seem to be 100-150nm ones, but I cannot determine the appropriate total length for the dog gate on my 2002 V70 D5.
Also this ebayer doesn't ship outside of the UK, I'm in Prague. Any tips would be helpful!
