Default xc70 high oil usage

I have tried to find out if this has been discussed before and i was hoping it had but I cant find anything.

My XC70 2006 185bhp is using oil. Too much. It isn't leaking onto the floor and it is not smoking. Where is it going? I have had a garage replace the turbo as they thought that might be the problem but it is still using oil.
The 'soot filter full' warning comes on if you accelerate more than normal but goes off after the ignition is turned off. The garage found the DPF was only 9% full and it wont regen on its own until it is 20% full (?) so they did a forced regen yesterday and today the soot filter warning was back.
I have spent alot on it with the new turbo and replaced a Bi Xenon headlight too and it is a great car and i don't want to have to scrap it but it is at that tricky stage of when do i stop chucking money at it!!!
EGR valves have also been mentioned as a potential problem (?)
Any advice gratefully received.

There is a very lengthy thread about this.
Iirc, there is something longwinded and unexpected, some chain of things which, iirc, results in oil being drawn into the induction, being burned, then creating too high a concentration of particulates for the dpf to cope with, thus is keeps clogging, which then can burn more oil due to high temps from regen. Again, as much as I can recall...

Also, if you are using a C spec oil instead ofbthe A/B spec, this can, conversely to apparent logic, cause dpf to require regen more often as the saps substitutes burn more readily thus using oil two-fold. This is a very recent discovery and is little known.

You need A5/B5 spec oil 0W30 or 5W30 and as your car is a euro 4, don't fill more than half way up the dipstick.
